Splendor scoring: prestige points, nobles and how the game ends

July 1, 2026 · 4 min read

Quick answer

In Splendor you score prestige points from the development cards you purchase and from nobles, worth 3 points each. When a player reaches 15 prestige the round is played to the end so everyone has equal turns; the highest total wins, and ties go to whoever bought fewer cards.

Where do prestige points come from?

Only two sources score in Splendor. Development cards you purchase show their prestige value in the top corner — many cheap cards are worth 0 and only contribute their gem bonus. Nobles are worth 3 prestige each.

Nobles are never bought: at the end of your turn, if your card bonuses meet a noble’s requirement, that noble visits you automatically (you choose if more than one qualifies, but you receive at most one per turn).

How does the game end?

When any player reaches 15 or more prestige, the current round is completed so that every player has taken the same number of turns. Only then are totals compared — it is entirely possible to trigger the end and still lose to someone who overtakes you on the closing turns.

The highest prestige total wins; on a tie, the player who purchased fewer development cards takes it.

Frequently asked questions

How many points do you need to win Splendor?

Reaching 15 prestige triggers the end of the game, but the round is finished so everyone has equal turns — the winner is whoever has the most prestige after that, which can be more than 15.

How do nobles work in Splendor?

Each noble is worth 3 prestige and visits automatically at the end of your turn once your card bonuses meet their requirement. You can receive at most one noble per turn and never pay for them.

What breaks a tie in Splendor?

The tied player who purchased fewer development cards wins. Efficiency, not just speed, decides close games.
