Wingspan scoring: how end-of-game points add up

June 21, 2026 · 4 min read

Quick answer

Wingspan is scored once, at the end of the game: add the printed points on your birds, your bonus cards and the round-end goals, then 1 point for every egg, cached food token and tucked card on your board. A score sheet or tracker app makes the six-category count painless.

What scores points in Wingspan?

Nothing is scored mid-game except recording the round goals — everything is added up after round 4:

  • Bird cards — the victory points printed on each bird you played
  • Bonus cards — points from your private objectives
  • End-of-round goals — recorded on the goal board at the end of each of the 4 rounds
  • Eggs — 1 point per egg on your birds
  • Cached food — 1 point per food token stored on your birds
  • Tucked cards — 1 point per card tucked under your birds

How do end-of-round goals work?

The goal board has two sides. On the green side, players compete for a ranking: the more of the goal item you have, the higher your placement and the more points you record for that round. On the blue side, you simply score 1 point per qualifying item, up to 5 per round.

Either way, note the result at the end of each round — reconstructing round goals after the fact is the most common source of Wingspan scoring disputes.

Frequently asked questions

When do you score points in Wingspan?

Almost everything is scored at the end of the game. The only thing recorded earlier is the end-of-round goal result, noted on the goal board at the end of each of the four rounds.

Do leftover food and cards in hand score points in Wingspan?

No. Food tokens in your supply and bird cards left in your hand are worth nothing. Only food cached on birds and cards tucked under birds score, at 1 point each.

What is a good Wingspan score?

Around 80 points is a solid game for most groups, and totals above 100 are strong. Experienced players on point-dense strategies can push well past that.
